What is Acne anyway? It's very common among teenagers, who are going through the aches and pains of puberty, that
is has become looked on as a given from childhood all the way through the teen years. This doesn't mean that you should accept it,
but that you need to learn how to combat it so it doesn't take over your life. The best way to do this is by learning
exactly what acne it is.

Acne encompasses many skin conditions and is caused by the pores in a person's skin becoming blocked by either dead skin
or body oils. These oils are called Sebum and normally are responsible for keeping your skin or hair from getting too dry.
The definition of acne found in teenagers is known as Acne Vulgaris. This form of acne is found
mainly on the person's face, upper back and shoulders. In teens it's the hormonal changes that seem to send the wrong messages to the
body and end up overproducing the body's oils.
Clogged pores become infected and this is when the pimples appear. When this occurs, one of four things happens. The infection
either comes out as a cyst, pimple, whitehead or blackhead. Although these are all very similar, each has its own little
differences. Whiteheads are caused when the pore gets blocked and remains closed. A blackhead is just the opposite. This is
a blocked pore that has remained open. Pimples, which are usually pink or reddish in color, are what happens when the blocked pore
bursts. This allows everything blocking it to get underneath the skin. Finally, cysts are not unlike a pimple, but are what
happens if the pore pops deeper under the skin. The deeper the infection, the more swelling there will likely be.
Now that you are aware of what's happening on your face, shoulders and back, what can you do about it? To
begin with, when you wash the infected area, wherever that happens to be, do it very gently by using warm water and mild soap.
This should help you contain the infections and will go a long way toward reducing the problem. Dermatologists will tell you
not to pop them or pick at your acne. This can be difficult, especially when you feel that it's the only thing that may
help the way it looks or get rid of it. However, skin doctors say that by doing that you are only making the condition
worse from the oils in your hands. This can also potentially lead to scarring.
Another cause of acne could be a reaction to specific medications and, in these cases, it doesn't matter how old you
are. Some of the medicines that could pose a problem are seizure medicines or drugs that can effect hormone levels. If you've
experienced this side effect, you need to talk to your doctor. They may be able to suggest an alternate medicine
that will do the same thing without causing you to have this reaction. For more answers to questions like
